57 Simon Griffith British biologist Simon Griffith has analysed the effects of climate change on plants and animals. His work has revealed that the warmer climate is making birds hatch early. It is also affecting nestlings that grow during summers in hot regions. They are developing into smaller adults. EYEWITNESS 5 Into the outside world With a final push, the chick tumbles out of the shell. Before pushing, it moves its body and wriggles out of the membranes that have surrounded it. Pheasant chicks are able to fly two weeks after hatching . Within hours, its feathers will dry and fluff up to provide an insulating jacket that will keep it warm. 4 Completing the circle The chick has almost detached the blunt end from the rest of the egg. Large pieces of shell fall away as the chick continues to push. 12:12 Day 28 12:20 Day 28
